B&W film processing & Darkroom printing is a workshop for learning the traditional art of Black & White Photography.
Witnessing your image slowly appearing on that blank piece of photographic paper in your developing tray feels like magic.

Every decision you make during printing affects your final work. Want a contrasty, gritty-looking documentary print? Prefer a solarized, surrealistic image? Go for a nostalgic, brownish-sepia tone? Yes, you can do all these if you know how.

The more you know about the art of darkroom developing & printing, the more you become an artist in control.

The knowledge of darkroom techniques could fill a book...and there are many out there. This beginner's workshop gives you a quick crash course in the art of traditional black and white photography.

Suitable for students who are:
Recommended for Intermediate photographers and serious amateurs who are interested to explore fine art photography.
This course is also suitable for beginners.

Prerequisite for the course:
Participants should at least have a film camera and two rolls of exposed B&W films for processing.
Students should have a basic understanding of photography composition and exposure.

Lesson ONE:
How to shoot in B&W + introduction to film processing
(1) Revision to basic photographic techniques essential for shooting black and white
(2) Introduction to the Zone System by Ansel Adams - The Camera, The Negative, and The Print


HOMEWORK assigned:
Students will be asked to shoot more with B&W films after Lesson ONE and have more films to be processed before Lesson TWO


Lesson TWO:
Film Processing + Introduction to B&W printing
(1) Students will process their own B&W films under the guidance of instructors.
(2) Introduction to printing - demonstration by Instructor

Lesson THREE:
More on Black & Printing
(1) Students will take turns to make their own B&W prints
